Atlanta Motorsports Park is proud to announce the launch of its new Youth Racer Development Program for participants aged 12-16 years. Effective February 1, 2016, the program will replace all public karting options for junior drivers who will now be required to complete a fun and informative training session in order to race on our ground-breaking circuit.
 
AMP’s new Youth Racer Development Program will provide professional instruction and coaching to current and future junior drivers. On completion of the program, each driver will be eligible for a racing license and have access to join the fun at public karting. Classes will be offered twice monthly.

The program lasts around 2 hours and follows the below format:

Session 1 Briefing:

- Covering the basics of using the gas, brake, and steering wheel.

- Showing a track map and preferred line


Session 1: C-Track

- Front stretch stopping drills (brake control w/out spinning)

- Back stretch slalom section (steering practice)

- Steering Practice


 Session 2 Briefing:

- Ongoing review of track map & preferred line, pinpointing braking, turn in, along with acceleration points in both Turn 1 and Turn 9.

- Reiterating the importance of not locking up the brakes, but making sure to use them to slow down


 Session 2: C-Track


- Lead/follow by the instructor to learn the preferred line from in the seat

- Drivers will be allowed to go for faster lap times while the instructor will follow to watch the drivers practicing newly-learned techniques


Session 3 Briefing:


- Individual coaching based on performance in Session 2

- Going over track map and preferred line with braking, turn in, and acceleration points for B-Track


 Session 3: B-Track


- All drivers on-track together with a lead/follow of the instructor for 1st half

- Instructor will follow the 2nd half to watch the drivers practicing newly-learned techniques


Session 4 Briefing:


- Individual coaching based on performance in Session 3

- Track map and preferred line for A-Track layout

 

Session 4: A-Track


- First 3 laps in lead-follow formation, last part of session at full speed with instructor mixing in throughout the field


 Session 5 Briefing:


- Individual instruction based on performance in session 4

 

Session 5: A-Track


- Full speed session for all 10 minutes to try and achieve 3 consistent lap times below 79 seconds while maintaining smooth operation of the kart.


- Instructor off-track and watching for a possible debrief afterwards
